About
Minha Economia is a free resource for learning to knit hats. Every pattern and guide on the site is written for people who are knitting their first hat, or who made one that came out too big, too short or too tight and want to understand why.
What you will find here
- Beginner guides that explain the fundamentals: which yarn and needles to choose, how to measure a head, how gauge works and how many stitches to cast on.
- Hat patterns written out round by round: flat-knit hats on straight needles, classic and slouchy beanies, ribbed hats, chunky hats, stripes and a first colorwork band.
- Technique guides for the parts every hat shares: joining in the round, brims, crown decreases, finishing and pom-poms.
If you are new, the best place to begin is How to Knit a Hat: A Beginner’s Roadmap, followed by the knit hat size chart. The full list of guides is on the Tutorials page.
How the patterns are written
Each pattern states the yarn weight, needle size, gauge and finished measurements at the top, defines every abbreviation it uses, and gives the stitch count after each decrease round so you can check your work as you go. Measurements are given in inches and centimeters, and needle sizes in US and metric.
The patterns are original instructions built from standard techniques and arithmetic: a gauge, a target circumference and a crown worked in even sections. Yardage and knitting times are estimates, because yarn and knitters vary. Always knit a gauge swatch before starting, and adjust the stitch count if your gauge is different.
The illustrations on this site are simplified drawings made to show shapes, stitch textures and the position of the needles. They are diagrams, not photographs of finished hats.
We do not publish invented reviews, ratings or testimonials, and we do not recommend yarn brands. Where a guide relies on an industry standard, such as yarn weight categories or abbreviations, it links to the organization that publishes it.
Corrections and suggestions
If a round is unclear, a stitch count looks wrong or a link is broken, please tell us through the Contact page. Clear, correct instructions matter more to us than anything else on the site, and corrections are always welcome.
